Tips For Larger-Looking Windows

  • Start by extending drapery hardware beyond the edges of the window frame. When you use drapes or curtains, this helps avoid stack back from interfering with your view. When your window treatments are wider than the window, it tricks your mind into thinking all the space behind the drapes is glass.
  • Choose a sturdy drape or shade fabric. A heavier fabric will not only look more high-end, but it will also do a better job of hiding walls when using the window-width trick. Flimsy fabric will not hang as well and will draw attention to the space between the rod and curtain, which is not ideal.
  • Use drapes from ceiling to floor and wall to wall between windows to dupe you into thinking your windows are massive. Covering the excess space makes it unclear where the walls end and your windows begin, which works in your favor.

  • Using texture is another trick designers keep up their sleeves. Cellular shades or woven window coverings are an excellent way to place texture around windows. Anything that increases depth or visual interest helps you to fake fabulous windows. Movement creates a sense of space. Think of a small room. It feels larger if your eyes have to run around the perimeter several times.
