Design Ideas for Light, Airy Spaces

An airy, spacious sunroom or living room is perfect for taking advantage of warm weather and gentle breezes, but what do you do in spaces that need improvement in those areas? Fortunately, creating a more airy, spacious aesthetic is easy to do with a few design tricks from the team at Advanced Window Fashions.

Keep Colors Light

Using light colors in smaller spaces is one of the oldest design tricks in the book. The reason is that lighter colors make the most of light rather than absorbing it. It only makes sense to put this design principle to work on your windows, and Vignette® Roman Shades in a soft taupe or cream color are perfect for this purpose. Vignette® Roman Shades also feature construction with no exposed rear cords for an uncluttered aesthetic. Painting the trim in a shade or two lighter than the walls in a room will also give the illusion of more space.

Make a Statement

You may think a statement piece is the last thing to make a room feel more open but hear us out. A bold piece of art will draw attention to itself and away from the size of the room. If you want to make a statement on your windows, consider Designer Roller Shades in an interesting pattern. Roller shades look amazing mounted inside the window frame, and taking up minimal space is always a plus when trying to make a room look larger.

Layer Lighting

Natural light is always preferable in any space, but the sun doesn’t shine 24 hours a day. A single overhead fixture will cast shadows in corners, making a room feel more compact. Instead, opt for layers of lighting like table and floor lamps and overhead track lighting. When natural light is an option, we recommend Pirouette® Sheer Shades. The sheer fabric diffuses light around the room, and adjustable fabric vanes allow more precise control over privacy. Pirouette® Sheer Shades also provide outstanding protection from UV rays and are available in more than 90 color and fabric choices.

Incorporate Texture

Patterns are lovely, but too many can create visual chaos and are not light and airy. Textures are a fantastic way to add visual interest to a room without being overwhelming. Use various fabrics on your furniture, toss in an area rug, and throw pillows into the mix for irresistible texture. Don’t forget about your windows when adding textural appeal to an area. Provenance® Woven Wood Shades feature endless texture with shade options that gently diffuse incoming light while still providing privacy.
